The Devil's Device

In 1 Peter 5:8 we are reminded to, “Be sober, be vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”. When Satan comes at us he doesn’t say, “hey, I am the devil; let’s ruin your life”.

He comes subtly and often under the radar. Often, he reveals himself as a non-threatening presence, “an angel of light”. It’s no surprise the word “serpent” in Genesis 3:1 translated in the Hebrew means “shining one”. When the enemy comes he comes questioning. In 1 Peter 5:8 we are reminded to, “Be sober, be vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”. Just like he did with Eve in the garden when he planted a word of doubt in her heart. He asked, “did God really say”? He asks her a question but he is not looking for information. He wants to draw something out of Eve.
He plants a question to form a doubt about God. The enemy is real. He is extremely subtle. He desires to do three things: steal, kill and destroy. Remember our opening verse where we are instructed to be sober and vigilant. If we find ourselves questioning the Word of God, you and I can know that the enemy is near, and we need to put up our sensors, obey the Truth and get out of there.

Exodus 34-36

Verse of the Day

Ephesians 6:12-13
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
